Home Buyer Tax Credit Opportunity

As you may have heard, yesterday Congress voted to both extend and expand the home buyer tax credit. This new legislation has the potential to significantly impact your business, and as a result, we wanted to take a moment to summarize the key points here for you today.

NAR predicts that two million people will take advantage of the home buyer tax credit. This extension should bring many buyers back to the table who thought they had already missed their opportunity to take advantage of this program.

• The current home buyer tax credit is extended to all purchases written before April 30, 2010;
• It significantly increases the number of people eligible to receive the credit by including first time buyers and many current home owners;
• Income limits are increased, thereby further expanding the number of potential home buyers that qualify to receive the credit.

These aspects of the new tax credit, combined with low mortgage rates and the best housing affordability that most areas have seen in many years, should help drive a significant number of new transactions in the coming months. As a result, we are encouraging all of our customers to take advantage of this opportunity by 1) making sure your prospects and past clients are aware of this new opportunity; and 2) using this as an opportunity to engage new prospects and capture more business.
